Upcoming changes

With summer approaching, I will soon be able to dedicate myself nearly full time to improving and enhancing Fadedempires. I'm having fun so far, but I think this blog can be a lot more than just a testing ground for my short fiction. While the heart of this site will always be powered by fantasy and sci-fi, I want to see what can be explored on the fringes of these genres. I also have to talk about what I know, or at least what I think I know, which should keep things from getting out of control. So with that in mind, I am introducing two new installments that I will regularly visit.

1. Symbolism in Fantasy and Sci-fi Movies: There are a ton of movie blogs out there, but I am not sure how many of them bother with the nuts and bolts symbolic interpretation. This is something I am good at, though, so I look forward to diving in. Hopefully I put a unique enough spin on my analysis of visual metaphor and shit that fadedempires will stand out a bit. I plan to focus on older films too, which may help it not just be another review site. Within this larger topic, I envision creating sub topics... for example, my first series of film analysis projects will examine sex and sci fi. For example, I'll take a look at movies that are not about sex on the surface, but really are when you dig deep. I imagine there will also have to be a David Lynch series at some point, since his work fascinates me. I'll make some kind of argument that his work is fantasy later.

2. Why being an Outspoken Atheist Matters: In this series, I will examine my own journey with atheism as well as try to bring out the stories of others. This is relevant, because a recurrent theme in my writing (at least a theme I want to explore) is how destructive illusion can be. I love a good myth, but only as a myth. Once these fanciful stories start to become real for people, we run into all kinds of trouble. Essentially, the atheism series will work at explaining why mythical worlds should and do matter to us, and how we might use them to further the cause of reason, even though they exist well outside the parameters of the 'actual'.

That's what I have for now. In the coming months (probably in the shower where I do my best thinking) I will develop additional topic lines that will ultimately help fadedempires become a more fun place to hang. To infinity and beyond!
